This is a gorgeous state park and the Natural Tunnel Trail does not disappoint This was my first hike since my back surgery. Sometimes you feel that you don’t make progress and I like to use this trip as a reference point. It was 7.5 miles in length. Terrain was easy-moderate. I had to stop about every 30 minutes or so and rest. I was in so much pain but I wanted so much to complete this trail. We had NO expectations of my doing so when we started out. Our plan was that we would go as far as I could and turn around and come back. Well 4-5 hours later, I made the entire trail. We stopped dozens of times and rested. Man how things have gotten so much better. This was a huge accomplishment for me, but it also makes me feel very sad when I think about how hard it really was. I was so elated at the end that I was jumping up and down for joy….so proud that I finished it. Mike and Amy were both dragging their feet. It was quite a sight.
That aside, I would go back. The scenery was gorgeous. I only wish that they allowed backpacking on this trail. It would be a gorgeous place to camp in the woods at.
