UPDATE 2/2/2014: Still loving these pants. I now have the grey and the black. The negative is still the same and they seem to catch easily on branches and once they do, they get “snags” all over them. They don’t rip, so they are still usable, but they don’t look quite as good; however, I prefer the warmth, weight, and comfort over the looks and I love the fact that my butt crack doesn’t hang out the back whenever I bend over.
UPDATE 2.3.2013- I FOUND OUT WHERE I PURCHASED THESE PANTS AND I’M ORDERING ANOTHER PAIR (NEED A SIZE SMALLER NOW WITH ALL OF MY HIKING!!!) I GOT THEM AT: DEPARTMENT OF GOODS.COM – I ALSO FOUND THEM ON SIERRA TRADING POST – A FEW DOLLARS HIGHER THERE BUT MORE COLORS AND SIZES (THEY ARE DISCONTINUED SO GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN)
I purchased these pants online recently (wish I could remember where I got them from as they were on clearance for $35). I’ve worn them once so far.
The bad parts first: They snag really bad. The trail I was on had portions that were pretty overgrown and had quite a bit of thorny bushes along the trail – granted I did my best to avoid the thorns. From the knees down, there are tons of little snags on these pants – so not good for unmaintained trails.
The good parts: They were extremely comfortable, warm, and good at wicking moisture away. The day I wore them it was about 55 degrees during the day and I did sweat and the material managed to keep it away from my body, allowing me to stay warm. I slept in them at night. Very comfortable.
I don’t necessarily blame the snagging on the pants; however, I would’ve preferred that after wearing them only one time, they still looked new!
I would definitely buy them again – especially at a clearance price of $35. I’ll work on taking a picture of the snags as well as researching where I bought them from.
