Trail: Turkey Pen Hollow
This was our second backpacking trip to Ha Ha Tonka – see more details on the first trip. This time, I was able to hike the entire loop of the Turkey Pen Hollow trail – including the extension to the primitive camp, where we stayed.
Fall colors were just starting to peak out here and there. The weather didn’t cooperate well for this trip. It rained on us some and got incredibly and expectantly cold that night.
No falls on this trip and all in all, I enjoy Turkey Pen Hollow and would go back again except this time, we may do more off a dispersed camping rather than the actual primitive campsite. I had the same exact nightmare both times when I camped on the Turkey Pen Hollow – kinda freaked me out the second time.
This trip was marked as one of my first great accomplishments; no falls and I made the entire trail, but it didn’t go down as being an enjoyable trip. None of the pieces really fell into place for this trip, but we made it and still would do it again.
