Last Saturday, I took a solo bike ride on the Katy Trail from the trailhead at Windsor, Missouri to just outside of Sedalia. It was a gorgeous day for a bike ride. This part of the trail mainly consists of farm land and pastures; however, it is very green and gorgeous. A good part of it is shady — very important for those hot, muggy summer days; however, during the stretch south of Green Ridge (which is the highest portion of the trail), it is long, hot, and dry and uphill both ways. When you see the sign “Prairie Restoration Area,” you know you are in for a long, dry, hot spell of the trail. The closer to Sedalia you get, the prettier it is. There are several highway and gravel road crossings – use caution as a few of them are blind spots and the traffic is traveling very fast. See pictures below for a representation of this part of the Katy trail.
