The biggest reason I shopped around — read reviews, studied lots of pads, was for painful pressure points and back pain, basically looking for a pad more comfortable than my previous one.
This is a self-inflating pad; doesn’t weight much. Those are the good parts.
The bad parts – it doesn’t block out cold at all. I nearly froze to death the last time we went backpacking. I shivered all night long. Temperature was about 25 degrees, which I have camped in before with the same sleeping bag, liner, tent, etc.; the only difference in the two trips was the pad. So if I am going to use it again in cooler weather, I’ll have to think of something like maybe an emergency blanket to place under the pad. Otherwise, it will just be my warm weather pad.
I don’t think I would purchase it again. It is more comfortable and it does inflate well, but what does it matter if I’m freezing to death?
UPDATE 2/2/2O14: Still taking this with me on every trip. It definitely adds a huge comfort level; however, I have had to add back my traditional cheap foam pad to put underneath off it to stay warm.
