Location: Knob Knoster State Park, closest town is Knob Knoster, MO
Activity: Day Hiking
Trail: Opossum Hollow
Falls: One for me (went down really hard; just was not doing good on this hike)
Other Trailgoers: 1 (annoying guy on a bike)
Would I Go Again: Probably (and I did go again shortly after with my daughter, Megan)
Not much to say about Knob Knoster; its a shorter drive than most hikes from our house, which makes it great for a day hike. No backpacking allowed here. The Opossum Hollow trail is listed at 5.5 miles, and has multiple “unlisted” connectors; probably created by bikers. We only passed one other person and that was someone on a bike, who came barreling up behind us. We didn’t even know he was back there. Scenery was unexpected for Central Missouri; definitely had the trees and “hills” more indicative of the Ozarks. Really great place to run to and stretch your legs for a bit. Expect plenty of joggers and bikers since this is close to the Air Force base.
I enjoyed this hike enough that I returned a couple of weeks later with my oldest daughter, Megan. I didn’t take any pics from that trip.
