I just downloaded the topomaps app based on somethings I’ve read on the web. Purchaed through the AppStore for $7.99…will hopefully try it out this weekend and see what I think. I like AllTrails, but I don’t want to commit to the $49 per year at this time. Hopefully this will be a suitable alternative in the meantime. Will report back with more information as I use the app.
Do you use this app? What do you think about it? Tell me below….
Update 2/27/13-Well I’m not sold that I got my money’s worth. I tried this for Three Creeks Trail; however, there were no trails marked (not surprised) and I did download the topo maps for the area, but found the map provided by the area we were hiking just as convenient. Still not sure about this. Will keep trying. At this point with what I know, I would have not purchased it, but that might change with more use.
UPDATE 2/2/2014: As of now, I quit using this app all together and wished I had never purchased it. I ended up purchasing the pro edition of all trails, and I prefer that much better. I like to see tracks on top of the topo maps and since I use all trails for the majority of my GPS tracking, it just made more sense, plus it’s less drain on the better not to have two programs open and I can take pics with the all trails app at the same time.
The only down side to the all trails pro is that I wish there were more nat geo trail maps available for Missouri but as of now, there are none; however, if you use the topo map selection, a good chunk of the trails are on the maps and hopefully accurate 🙂
UPDATE 4/5/2014: I still don’t use this app anymore. Try Gaia GPS instead. A little more expensive but the maps are much better and it has a tracking feature as well as a track/route creator.
