Scotland is a wonderful country to visit if you are a fan of drinking scotch and hiking. Scotland’s whisky is world-renowned because they invented it and the chords and notes of each area’s distilleries are distinct and spine-tingling. Many scotches are distilled for years in oak barrels and the world’s most expensive and exotic brands are all brewed here. A standard Scottish past time is to spend the early afternoon drinking for a few hours before going for a stroll in the Highlands with some more in a flask on one’s hip to keep the chilly air off of one’s chest. Much of the scenery is quite astounding and there are many trails marked out by the National Trust so that you can find exquisite vistas without getting lost.
The area around the lochs is a great destination for this past time of drinking and hiking because you can also hire boats and go fishing. If you are visiting Loch Ness keep an eye out for the monster and if you are visiting Loch Lothan make sure that you visit McMillan’s, a quaint boozer on the Loch’s east coast that boasts a wide selection of delicious ales and locally brewed single malts. Another great place to go hiking is around Cairngorms, a national park famed for its snow-covered peaks and rocky scenery. You can also get great deals on a Cairngorms hotel by having a look online at the numerous white paper sites that offer reductions on accommodation in the area.
If you are not one for hiking, another option is to head into one of the cities, maybe Edinburgh or Glasgow. If you are going to Edinburgh try to time your visit to coincide with one of the eight International festivals that occur in the summer each year – when exactly will depend on which festival you want to go to – and if you are going to Glasgow, try and time your visit to coincide with an Old Firm derby between Celtic and Glasgow Rangers. You can also get great deals on a central Glasgow hotel by booking online and buying your accommodation at the same time as your tickets to the match.
